OK this is what is going on if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it..
I have an in ground pool with a hayward pool pump and cartridge filter. I clean the filter once a week but now I am having vacuuming issues and pressure problems. I fill the vacuum hose with water then connect it but there is nothing going on. Sometimes to there is no pressure coming out of the jets. I have read that maybe there is air in the lines not really sure what to do but my pools floor is dirty and I don’t know what to do. Thanks

Why isn’t my swimming pool working

My pool is 4 years old- in ground- salt. we swam last summer and water started looking a tad cloudy,  basically never checked the water balance. well about 4 months ago, after a filter cleaning i noticed that the water pressure was still high (at the filter) and my vacuum wasn’t moving at all. checked it (hayward) and made sure there was no debris and noticed that the suction was low. about that time, the motor burned out. so we got a new motor, new salt cell and just today i put in 4 brand new cartridge filters. the pool was already clear of debris before i put in the new filters. but immediately after starting it up, my circulation was still low and my pressure at the filter is still very high- well above what it used to be. we’ve got water features that work fine when on and i double checked the salt cell to ensure that it was clear of any debris. both skimmers are clean.

this problem persists when the water features are OFF.

now there’s a valve that controls the balance between skimmer suction and vacuum suction and i typically have it set to what the pool manufacturer recommended- (60% vac, 40% skim- or vice versa- either way, my problem persists) when i have it at this setting, the vacuum doesn’t move. i literally have to have it at 100% vacuum and then it seems to have full suction. i tick it down like 1 or two clicks and it almost stops moving. when i have it at 100% skimmer, the skimmer is going nuts. at either extreme, the psi at the filter is around 30. after every filter cleaning the pressure used to drop from 30ish back down to 10ish and whenever it got high, that’s when i decided it was time to clean (2-3 months, and we live in arizona where we’d get the occasional wind storm that would gum up the system)

In-ground with Cartridge Filter

Algae in the Water

I cant get my pool clean. Its 20k in-ground with cartridge filter.? I’ve tried about everything. We spoke with a friend who worked for a pool company and he stated that dumping in some earth into the filter may help, but no help at all. We’ve tried vacuuming it but when the water is pushed back into the pool, the algae is still in the water. Its as though the filter isn’t catching it. The cartridge is clean, free of gunk. Our filter is Mythical large cartridge. Shy of contacting a professional cleaning service, I don’t know what else to do and help?
We had the water tested and he told us that all of our levels were within the needed range, therefore we didn’t need to add any chemicals to the water which was odd b/c our pool is full of algae. We dumped a full container of algaecide in the pool and scrubbed the walls. But after 48 hours of the filter running the pool is still filthy – its as though the filter is not trapping the algae and is pushing it right back into the pool. Is changing from a cartridge filter to a DE filter hard/expensive?

Setting Up Filter to Remove Algae from Pool

Swimming with algae

Where to set my filter to pump the algae from my pool? I have a 20×40 in ground pool that I just opened yesterday, I shocked it and added some strike out to the water as was recommended by my pool person, and then I set my sand filter on recirculate for over 24 hrs., this morning I wanted to vacuum the sediments at the bottom of the pool, very green algae, so when I turned the handle on my sand filter to pump from recirculate it brought it back around and into the pool again, is there another setting that I should be using to vacuum the bottom of my pool? I am really pretty new at this and just want to clean my pool after the winter without the expense of hiring the pool guy to do it. any constructive knowledge would be so helpful. thanks
